Japan Team Update - Day #29

HIGH:

  • Special Chapel!
    • Today's Chapel was a performance showcase of the all the students and their year long hard work. Our team was also invited to participate in a few of the performances. The many talents of each student is amazing, but even more amazing is to see the joy in their eyes. It was so rewarding to teach the kids Psalm 23 in English and both learn and teach the Wordless Book Song. Shoutout to the kids wanting to wear their Catalyst shirts! They were just gifts, but they wanted to show them off. So cool!

  • Prayer & Worship Night!
    • Joylene shares her story of the deep challenges in her life. Hearing her talk about holding on to her faith, while still learning the depths of her relationship with God is a good watch.

LOW:

  • Pray for Families in Japan! As we have befriended many people in the congregation, we get to hear deeper stories of how families fare in Japan. Unfortunately, many are in unhealthy situations or even broken all together... To a much smaller extent, this was highlighted by today's attendance at chapel. Back home we're so used to recitals being full of parents, siblings, grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc. However, today the sanctuary had a surprising amount of open seats which were mainly occupied by church/ school staff. It may have simply been an off day, but it did ignite the desire to pray for the families of Japan!

BUFFALO:

  • Too Much Excitement! Seeing our students being excited to see us, totally fills our love tank. They've yelled our names when driving away in a car, they've sat at our door step waiting for us to finish our lunch, and even sprinted with a full backpack in the blazing heat to catch up to us when walking... Today's incident was a bit comical. As a group of us drove up the driveway waving at our students, one of our kids was so excited, but fell backwards off a 3-4 foot ledge. Thankfully there were large fluffy bushes underneath to break their fall. They were fine and everyone laughed it off!

Peace y'all!
