Scripture Passage: Zephaniah 3:17
“The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
As I was driving to church recently, the Lord spoke Zephaniah 3:17 over me. I had been engaged a few times with the picture, imagining Him joying over me with singing, but He was bringing it up again. Hebrew mystics believe that there are 72 layers of meaning to every sacred word, every phrase. This was an opportunity to go a little deeper. He then brought to mind the scene of King David dancing with all of his might before the Lord as he joyfully brought the Ark, God’s Presence, back to Israel. He was severely ridiculed and criticized by his wife Michal for being so undignified. Then it happened. The Lord God, Father God, said that He danced and sang with undignified, abandoned passion over me. I could scarcely receive that. It didn’t compute. I had always imagined Him to be dignified, but now all of heaven followed suit with Him over me because I am His beloved. He then said that I did not love myself like that. I had this disparaging attitude towards myself. I focused on the things I didn’t like, things that needed improvement. I realized that I tried to give myself incentive to change by being critical of myself. A little voice in my heart spoke: “How am I going to motivate myself to change or grow then?” He actually smiled broadly and laughed. “Out of Love.” I would be transformed as I ran into His Arms experiencing His delight and love over me. No one gets nagged or criticized into intimate oneness.
Sit before God and picture Him passionately singing and dancing with undignified joy over you, unconditionally loving you with all that He is and all that He has just as He desires us to return the same Love to Him. Experience it. Breathe it in.
